This week we are celebrating the Red Ribbon Week message, A Healthy Me is Drug Free!
Our campus is decorated in RED with red ribbons and student posters with messages to stay healthy, stay drug free. Congratulations to our poster contest winners. Stop by our front lobby to view the display. We are so happy to see the many encouraging messages displayed throughout the school.
We have many things planned this week:
Monday – Students make the pledge to stay drug free and get their red wristband to wear all week.
Tuesday – Wear Red. Students will enjoy a special Red Ribbon Week BMX Assembly by Perfection on Wheels stunt team.
Wednesday – Wear a sport or extracurricular activity shirt
Thursday – Wear a Burcham Spiritwear t-shirt
Friday – Wear a college shirt and enjoy a “red” treat.
The week will end with our Family Favorite… Trunk-or-Treat!
Talk Early, Talk Often
We encourage parents to use this week as a starting point for an ongoing conversation about drugs and alcohol. Allianceforsafekids.org says,
“Use this as an opportunity to talk to your kids about the importance of staying drug and alcohol free. Conversations are one of the most powerful tools parents can use to connect with—and protect—their kids. It is never too early to set the foundation for a lifetime of open communication. The earlier we begin a dialogue with our children about alcohol / drugs, the more comfortable they will be asking questions down the road. Avoid one “big talk” and replace it with consistent and ongoing conversation. Talk Early. Talk Often.”
Here are some more tips we hope you find helpful. We especially like #8 :-)
